Though the mini-SUV is no longer a novel formula, the Rav4 continues to command a large market and its design is still an eye-catcher. For the 2000 model, few modifications have been made. First up, is the discontinuance of the two-door version. All Rav4s now come in the four-door type, with a choice between the two-wheel and the four-wheel drive. This cute-ute is powered by a 127-horsepower, 2.0-liter, twin-cam four-cylinder engine, and comes with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic.

 

There are several Options Packages available to upgrade the standard features of the showroom Rav4. For example, the Extra Value Package #1 adds air conditioning, AM/FM/cassette, cruise control, power windows, mirrors and door locks, cloth head rests. Extra Value Package #2 adds color-keyed door handles, mirrors, bumpers and body cladding, cruise control, alloy wheels and privacy glass for an extra sporty and trendy look. Package #3 includes the features of Package #1 plus leather seating surfaces and anti-lock brakes, which allows the driver to maintain steering control of the vehicle during panic stops.

 

Outdoorsy people will love the special features of the Rav4 such as the auxiliary power outlet in the rear cargo area for battery-powered coolers and other gear, as well as four built-in tow hooks. Other pleasant interior features of the Rav4 include the full carpeting, dual outside mirrors, intermittent front and rear wipers and a rear window defogger. Front door pockets offer storage space, while twofold cup holders are included into the lower instrument board.

 

Safety features include dual airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners and force-limiters, and side-impact door beams. The cockpit is typical Toyota showcasing comfortable seats, accessible control panels, and a three-spoke steering wheel. The instrument area includes a digital odometer, dual trip meter, and upgraded radio features. All-around visibility is exceptional owing to the sloping hood, tall driving position, and generously sized windows.
